Pyrography, which means writing or painting with fire, is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object, such as a poker.

Peng Fang, a 27-year-old man of the post-90s generation, has loved pyrography for a long time. Though he majored in civil engineering during college, he learned pyrography on his own during his spare time, and since then has become a well-known pyrography artist.

After graduation, he worked in a civil engineering job, but after six months, quit to dedicate himself to pyrography. He earnestly learned from more experienced pyrographers to improve his skills. In early 2017, he opened a pyrography art shop in Xi'an city in Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

Peng's pyrography artwork is vivid and creative, which attracts many customers.

"The process of pyrography needs patience and persistence", Peng said. Small pyrography artwork may take half or a full day to finish, and large pieces can take more than 10 days.
