China and India should continue to follow the spirit of the agreement the two countries’ leaders have reached and stick to the right direction for bilateral ties, two leading officials from both countries agreed.

Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee held talks with Indian National Security Adivser Ajit Doval in Shanghai on Friday.

Yang and Doval also agreed that China-India ties have seen new progress since the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Xiamen in September. They also said that it is in line with both countries’ fundamental interests and helps the stability, development and prosperity of Asia as well as the world to deepen bilateral ties comprehensively.
