Two Chinese sailors found alive after Malaysia capsize
Two Chinese, who were among the 14 missing sailors in a capsized sand dredger, were found by a Chinese rescue team Friday afternoon and are safe now, the Ministry of Transport said.
The two survivors - Liu Konggan, the ship’s captain from Fujian province, and Liang Puzeng, a sailor from Zhejiang province - were respectively rescued at 2:55 pm and 3:42 pm by three Chinese divers in the pump room of the vessel.
The dredger capsized Wednesday off Malaysia in the Malacca Strait, killing one Chinese sailor and leaving 14 others missing, authorities said Thursday.
Three Chinese out of the 18 crew members on board were rescued and one was found dead. The other 14 people - 12 Chinese, one Indonesian and one Malaysian - went missing after the accident, and two of them were rescued Friday afternoon, the Ministry of Transport said.
