Somnox, the world's first sleep robot, is shaped like a pillow and made by a Dutch startup. The company claims the product will improve sleep by playing sleep-inducing sounds and simulating human breathing to help regulate users' breaths. It has a built-in speaker with an accompanying app programmed to play sounds selected to help soothe people to sleep. The system is loaded with pre-set heartbeat sounds, lullabies and guided meditations, but users can also upload their own personal playlist to help them rest. [Photo/VCG]

World Sleep Day, which falls on Wednesday, is themed as a day for "regular work, rest and healthy sleep" in China this year, the Chinese Sleep Research Society announced Saturday.

More than 50 million people in China have sleep disorders and 56 percent of Chinese internet users have problems with the quality of their sleep, with symptoms including abundance of dreams, continuously exhausted sleep and waking up with a muddled mind in the morning, Han Fang, president of the Chinese Sleep Research Society, said according to a report by rmlt.com.cn.
