2018 marks the 60th anniversary of the Grammy Awards ceremony. As the most prestigious music awards ceremony in the world, the Grammys are on the same level as other major performance awards, such as the Academy Awards for film, the Emmy Awards for television, and the Tony Awards for Broadway theater.

The first Grammy Awards ceremony, held on May 4, 1959, set out to honor and respect musical accomplishments by performers over the previous year.

As the Grammys have grown in stature, groups of world renowned musicians including Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Madonna, Beyonce and Taylor Swift have all left their footsteps in Grammy history.
