Spike in fortunes
With six wins in a row, the Chinese women's volleyball squad won the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup in Japan in September, adding another major title to their golden victory at the 2016 Rio Olympics. China last won the same event in 2001. The team's superstar spiker Zhu Ting also enjoyed stunning successes at club level, lifting European and world titles with Turkish franchise VakifBank.
