5 killed, 3 injured in central China scaffold collapse
WUHAN -- Five people were killed and three others injured after a scaffold collapsed Wednesday afternoon in a construction site in central China's Hubei Province, local authorities said Thursday.
The accident happened in Jianshi county when workers were dismantling the old office building of a branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, according to the county government.
Three of the victims were local food and drug inspection officials working near the site. Three passers-by were injured in the accident.
Rescuers have found the trapped victims, three men and two women, who were confirmed dead, according to the local government.
Six people in connection with the accident were held in police custody. Further investigation is under way.
