Marin Haese, lord mayor of Adelaide City, and Qingdao Mayor Meng Fanli took part in the signing ceremony.

Meng said that Qingdao has maintained a sister-city relationship with Adelaide for 16 years. The two sides have conducted exchanges and cooperation in a wide range of areas including culture, education and health with fruitful results achieved.

As an important central city in China's coastal area, Qingdao plans to put forth an earnest effort to boost its economy, culture and the livelihoods of its residents and build itself into a livable, innovative and international city, which will open up broad prospects for cooperation with Adelaide.

Meng added that the two sides will learn from each other's successful experience in urban planning, construction and management, helping to smooth implementation of related projects and deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

Haese said that the two cities share lots of similarities and Adelaide welcomes more investment and business from Qingdao enterprises. He hoped that both sides will continue to maintain their friendly relationship and expand cooperation in finance, trade, tourism and education.

At the ceremony a number of enterprises signed a series of cooperation agreements.
